The artist and designer Christin Rothe aka Trolli Couture recreated Novembre’s favorite pick of the new Summer Season 21 Luxury Handbags. The most significant difference on her take on brands like Prada, Givenchy, Fendi and Balenciaga is that they are exclusively made out of the artist‘s favorite material: silicone. Her rough but cute take on these pieces oscillates smoothly between the status of wearable handbags and sculptural objects.

„With the smell of aged wood and damp hay in my nose my memory thickens. The softest spot I still find under your straw-like hair“Together with the photographer Laura Schaeffer, Rothe staged the unique pieces in a horse stable, capturing the timeless feeling of small-town life, bringing the bags back to where many big brands have their roots: the saddlery. Teenage dream and historic business in a renaissance-romance.In this late spring scenario the bags show off their technically robust and durable materiality of the silicone repliques, enduring water and dirt. Trolli Couture mimics the brand‘s new season arrivals not only as a one-way fashion quote: the bags become an artwork themselves!

Using silicone as a „fabric“ for handbags is the signature style of Christin Rothe´s brand Trolli Couture. Here she creates her own playful but queerly elegant designs and often collaborates with other artists. Her background in product design is easy to see when you take a closer look at the bags. The complex shape contrasting with the arbitrary appearance of the bags is key for their magical extravagance. Trolli Couture is as much about the mold construction as it is about the finished bags. For this shoot the photographer Laura Schaeffer situated the bags in sculpture-like setups using objects found around the scene. In creating still life moments she captured splendid details like the relief highlights of the bags, producing a dialogue with their surroundings. Schaeffer´s work fluctuates between applied and artistic photographyThe company Troll Factory supports Christin Rothe in this project for the second time with a material sponsorship.
